Making an effort to go zero waste!
So this year since I already have the means to do it, I decided to seriously take my passion for living an eco friendly and greener life. I know, I know ...how it can be pricey to do it at first, but you get to save the environment one bit at a time, now isn't that worth it?Starting off with my metal straws and bamboo toothbrush. I think my advocacy started when I saw those sea creatures getting harmed by plastics. It's when people don't throw their trash in the right place, I mean how hard is that?
My workmates and I bought this on Instagram at metalstrawph. Since we love buying milk teas during sweldo (yey, coco!), and that fast-food fave whenever we're too lazy to think of what to eat, it was a must to purchase those straws. Plus, I also like to start my day right with a good breakfast, usually, that breakfast consists of a bottled Vitamilk. And you all know how hard it is to drink in a bottle without a straw. I admit how it is a hassle to carry around a pouch full of straws, especially when you're forgetful or carry a small bag. So if I forget it what I do is I sip my drinks, if it's possible.
Next is my bamboo toothbrush. Its bristles are so soft. At first, I was afraid I might break the handle if I brush too hard. But since it's made from bamboo, I doubt it would break. I pair this with my organic Himalaya toothpaste. I have been using this for a month now and although I have braces the bristles are still intact. Good job with that.
I don't use a plastic spoon and fork. I have my utensils. I think it's a good thing when I still try to get those plastic utensils from fast foods, since I don't want it to fall in the wrong hands. You don't need special utensils, just get one from your home.
I also tried bringing my own container whenever I buy from the canteen. Instead of putting it in a plastic or giving it to me in a box, I give them my container. But my gosh, it's true that you need a lot of patience on this. They often roll their eyes or look at each other as if it is it was a crime when I gave them my container. But with patience and effort, I do try to understand them. Maybe it's because they don't know how much they have to put in, and of course, since hundreds of people buy in a canteen they already know the precise measurement of the viand they have to put if it is in a container they're used to using.
So how much did all of this cost?
Metal straw set - 255
*1 colored jumbo
* 1 colored regular
* pouch
* brush
Bamboo toothbrush -75
See, for 300+ you get to do a part in saving the environment. Canvassing, I think metalstrawph has the most affordable price. You can also mix and match the colors of your straw, or get the bendy ones. They have lots of options to be exact (This is not sponsored btw).
Just some pictures for you guys to be aware of why I am pushing this advocacy (photos are not mine; google images). These creatures are only two of the millions that are affected by littering and the use of plastics.
So I hope I inspired you in my own little way. Throw your trash at the right place. Stop using plastics and together we'll help the environment one step at a time.
